Sunderland attacker Chris Maguire has claimed that he would never play for either Newcastle United or Rangers during his career.

Maguire, who is Sunderland's joint-top scorer this season with ten league goals, has made 84 appearances for the Black Cats since joining from Bury in the summer of 2018, scoring 20 goals in total.

With the current suspension of football preventing Maguire from adding to those tallies for the time being, the striker took part in a QandA on Sunderland's official Twitter account on Friday night, with fans of the club taking the opportunity to put their questions to the attacker.

At one point during the session, one fan took the opportunity to cheekily ask whether Maguire - who has often expressed his affection for current Scottish champions Celtic - would rather play for their arch-rivals Rangers, or Sunderland's bitter foes Newcastle, with the attacker responding in equally cheeky fashion.

Responding to the question, Maguire replied: "Hmm, let me think about that one" before taking a sip out of a Celtic themed mug, and then simply stating "none".

The Verdict

Social media really has become a useful tool for keeping fans entertained in the past few weeks, and this will undoubtedly have been no different.

With Maguire weighing in on two of the biggest rivalries in British football, it is no surprise to see that plenty of fans of all four clubs will have wanted to have their say on the attacker's comments here.

In that sense therefore, this has in many ways done the job that Twitter has so often been used for by clubs in recent weeks, giving fans something of a more light-hearted distraction from the difficult times that we currently find ourselves in.
