Sunderland have announced the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bristol City.

The forward has moved to the Stadium Of Light on a loan deal that will run until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old is highly-rated at Ashton Gate and has made seven first team appearances for the Robins in the Championship this term, but will be hoping for more regular first team football after linking up with the Black Cats.

Speaking to Sunderland's official website, Semenyo said: "It’s been a long wait to get the deal done, but it’s finally signed and I’ve joined a great club.

"It’s got so much history and I’ve heard so many great things about it from lots of people, so I’m proud to be a part of that.

“I’m looking forward to working with the manager because I want to improve every day. I can’t wait to get started.”

The verdict

This is a very strong signing from Parkinson to bring in a talented youngster from the division above that is very highly-rated by the club.

Semenyo might not get regular playing time right away at the Black Cats but he is guaranteed to get more minutes in League One than the Championship and will learn from the experience of Parkinson, along with Lafferty and Charlie Wyke in the squad.

Parkinson’s squad is shaping up very nicely for them to consolidate their position in the play-offs and potentially build towards the automatic promotion places in the back end of the season.

Their recent run has helped boost the morale around everyone associated with the club after a turgid few months, which these signings have helped contribute towards the lifting spirits.
