According to the Chronicle Live, Simon Grayson’s transfer business is not complete, with the Sunderland manager hoping to add more players to his squad between now and the end of the summer.

Since his arrival at the Stadium of Light earlier this summer, Grayson has been reshaping his squad for Sunderland’s first return to the Sky Bet Championship since 2007.

There have been a number of arrivals so far this summer, with the 47-year-old targeting more deals between now and the end of the transfer window.

The latest player to be linked with a move to Sunderland is Grant Leadbitter – Middlesbrough’s central midfielder.

The 31-year-old is Boro’s club captain, but it expected to find his opportunities limited under Garry Monk in the coming year.

Leadbitter has a wealth of experience in the Championship, and was part of the Boro squad that won automatic promotion during the 2015/16 campaign.

Another player who has continually been linked with a move to the North East this summer is Ross McCormack, the Aston Villa forward who is out-of-favour with Steve Bruce.

McCormack was left out of Villa’s matchday 18 on the opening day of the season.

Sunderland are in action tomorrow evening when they face Bury in the Carabao Cup, before travelling to Norwich City on Sunday afternoon for their second fixture of the Championship season.

The Verdict

Sunderland surprised many on their return to the Championship, putting in a spirited performance in a 1-1 draw with Derby County at the Stadium of Light.

However, Grayson will want more from his side, and will give them the best possible chance of success by strengthening his squad between now and the end of the summer.

The addition of Leadbitter would be a shrewd piece of business, and with the Boro man struggling for first-team opportunities, that transfer could be one to watch.
