Sunderland and Sheffield United could be set for a transfer tug-of-war this summer, with both Championship sides set to launch bids for Dion Sanderson as reported by Mail Online.
The 22-year-old has been exposed to Championship football already having spent time out on loan and he could be set for even more time in the second tier next season, with two more clubs ready to try and sign him up.
He impressed with QPR, making 11 appearances as the side finished in the top half of the Championship table this campaign. He also helped Birmingham to steer clear of the drop too, with 15 league appearances from the player as he helped the Blues to stay solid at the back.
The player has now returned to parent club Wolves but it might not be for long. Both Sunderland and Sheffield United are seemingly eager to sign him up. Both clubs are aware of his capabilities in the second tier and could both add him to their squads this summer.
It certainly seems as though he will be available once again during the window too, with this report suggesting he might not just be available on a short-term basis. If either club can afford him, then they could even sign him on a permanent basis too - and with the 22-year-old showing the potential to get even better, it could be worth stumping up the cash if they have it.
Either way, it doesn't look like his future will be with Wolves - and these two sides will only be too happy to take him off their hands.
The Verdict
Dion Sanderson has shown that he can be an excellent defender in the Championship over the course of his two loan spells with QPR and Birmingham and it is therefore no surprise to see two more sides interested in signing him.
To be honest, it comes as a surprise to see Wolves eager to let go of him. He might not be quite Premier League standard yet but the potential is there for the youngster to get even better and based off his showings this campaign, he could certainly be a decent option in the future.
Their loss is another side's gain though and whoever lands him will be getting a good player. Sunderland would be pulling off a real coup if they could add him to their ranks this window and it would go a long way towards ensuring their backline is up to second tier standard after their promotion.
The Blades too could really kick on and think of a promotion if they sign Sanderson up. He certainly is an excellent player to sign and it could be a real battle between these two to see who can secure his signature.
