Sunderland, Derby and Norwich are all eyeing up a January loan move for West Brom’s young midfielder Sam Field.

The England youth international has managed to force his way into the first-team picture over the past two seasons, however game time has been harder to come by recently.

Field hasn’t played a minute of Premier League action since he was subbed at half-time in Albion’s defeat at Swansea in early December.

Whilst he is still a regular on the bench, the prospect of getting regular football in the Championship may appeal to both the player and his club. And, according to HITC, there are three Championship sides willing to bring the midfielder in.

Derby County would be the most appealing destination given their position in the league however it’s hard to envisage guaranteed first-team football at Pride Park.

Sunderland are the most likely of the three to give such assurances although their plight may concern those at West Brom as to whether Field needs to go to a club with so much pressure on it.

The Verdict

Sam Field is very highly thought of at the Hawthorns so they are surely only going to let the England U20 international leave if they know it will benefit his career.

Regular football is sure to do that and beats sitting on the bench for West Brom, so the three interested clubs will all have a chance.

Whether the deal depends on any incomings at West Brom remains to be seen, but Field would be a strong addition to each side, particularly Sunderland who are especially weak in midfield.
