Ethan Ross will be moving on this summer after rejecting a new contract with Aberdeen, according to The Press and Journal.

The 19-year-old is attracting substantial interest from the EFL with clubs including Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers both interested in doing a deal for the talented player, as per reports from Football Insider.

Ross is set to be out of contract at the end of June but was still in talks with the Scottish side over a new deal at Pittodrie, however the latest update has suggested that he's going to be moving on.

A midfielder by trade, Ross is considered to be a promising talent after making 35 senior appearances in his career to date with loans spells with Raith Rovers and Dunfermline Athletic adding to his two appearances for Aberdeen.

While the player might be seen as one for the future, this is certainly a big development for both Sunderland and Blackburn.

Lee Johnson is looking for offensive reinforcements this summer and Ross could be seen as an ideal candidate to develop into a first team player over the coming years.

It's a similar situation at Ewood Park with Tony Mowbray looking to add youth to his Blackburn squad following the departure of experienced winger Stewart Downing at the end of his contract.

While it remains to be seen where Ross will end up, Aberdeen will be due compensation for the player due to his age - something that both clubs would have to consider when weighing up a  move.

The verdict

This is potentially good news for both Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers.

Ethan Ross is an excellent young talent and with this update it seems certain that he'll be moving on this summer.

It remains to be seen if either club will make a formal offer for the player, but there's no doubt that the 19-year-old winger could be a shrewd addition for the future.

Competition will be fierce for his signature and so it's going to be an interesting few weeks for the young man.
