Sunderland have had a bid in the region of £250,000 for George Evans accepted by Reading, according to The Reading Chronicle.

Evans is set to complete his move to Sunderland in the next few days after the two clubs agreed on the transfer fee.

The 23-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Reading and they have decided to cash in on him after he fell down the pecking order under Paul Clement.

Evans suffered an injury early in the year during Reading's relegation battling season and only managed 23 outings.

But in the year before, the former Manchester City youth product played 43 games to help the Royals reach the play-off final in the Championship, where they lost to Huddersfield Town.

But Evans' future at the Madejski Stadium appears to be over with a move to League One side Sunderland on the cards.

The Black Cats have lost Paddy McNair in midfield and want to replace him with Evans.

The Verdict

This would be a fantastic signing for Sunderland as they would get a versatile, hungry young player.

At the age of 23, he already has some decent experience under his belt at a higher level and he is comfortable playing in central midfield or at centre-back.

The blow of losing McNair earlier this summer will be softened by the potential arrival of Evans.
