Sunderland's January transfer window was minutes away from disaster after the sale of Josh Maja to Bordeaux and a deal for Will Grigg seeming less and less probable.

But right at the last minute, they got their man, confirming the arrival of the Northern Irishman from Wigan the morning after the deadline had passed.

He was undoubtedly the best realistic replacement the Black Cats could have possibly signed to replace Maja's goals.

In his previous years in the third tier, Grigg had managed to score 96 goals in 260 appearances, including 19 and 25 goals in each of the Latic's last two promotion-winning seasons from the division.

Having arrived with these statistics in his back pocket, many Sunderland fans, and neutrals as well, expected to see him to hit the ground running.

That has not been the case, however.

In his two starts for Sunderland, he is yet to find the back of the net and a few nerves are starting to emerge among the expectant fans.

But how will Grigg be feeling going into tonight's clash with Accrington Stanley having yet to find the net?

Well, being somebody who no doubt prides himself on finding the back of the net he will be starting to well and truly feel the pressure.

The rumoured £4million price-tag will, of course, be looming as well, but I imagine that the biggest pressures will be coming from Grigg himself. So he will be desperate to deliver what is expected.

After all, he has a reputation to keep up right now, it is beginning to slip.
