League One is becoming a more competitive division than ever before, with both promoted and relegated sides doing incredibly well amongst its usual members.

Barnsley and Sunderland have started well from a Championship background, but Accrington, Luton Town and Coventry City have all performed very well too. Add the likes of Portsmouth, Doncaster and Walsall into the mix and you have a highly-competitive and unpredictable division in which budget seems to matter less than team spirit.

Who would have put Accrington Stanley in the top six at this stage of the season? Who could have predicted Walsall would be battling as high as they are doing right now?

Behind every successful team there is a striker, a deadly marksman or even a pair who are impressing scouts and bagging goals. whether it is youngsters such as Josh Maja or Karlan Grant, older hands such as Chris Maguire and Brett Pitman or former non league players like Andy Cook.

FLW runs down the best five strikers currently earning a wage in League One. Do you agree with our picks?

It would be hard to ignore Tom Eaves, he's been scoring regularly in a struggling Gillingham side and has perhaps been their talisman for a couple of seasons now.

He's a top forward and is out of contract in the summer, which will surely spark a feeding frenzy.

Taylor swapped Wimbledon for Charlton in the summer and just gets the nod over his strike partner Karlan Grant.

Together they're a deadly duo helping Lee Bowyer up the table, but of the two Taylor perhaps edges the battle.

Godden has been in top form for Peterborough this season after making the step up from League Two.

He impressed at Stevenage and if this season is anything to go by, he could soon follow Jack Marriott up a level, with or with Posh.

It's tight at the top, but we're going with Josh Maja as the second best striker in the division.

He's young and raw but he's been sensational so far, helping the Black Cats cope without £1m man Charlie Wyke, who doesn't make the top five.

Marquis is one who is surely destined for much bigger things. He's carried a poor Doncaster Rovers in the past and is now a key part of their revival under Grant McCann.

He'll be a target for someone this January, he has to be. He's got a bit of everything.
