Joel Asoro is edging closer to completing a move away from Sunderland, with reports suggesting he underwent a medical with Swansea City yesterday afternoon.

According to Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (13/07, 16:02), Asoro is on the verge of completing a £2m move back into the Sky Bet Championship, after a deal was agreed between Sunderland and Swansea City.

The forward's medical was yesterday, with a view to completing his move in the near future.

Asoro made 29 appearances across all competitions for Sunderland last season, with 26 of those coming in the Championship.

The 19-year-old returned three goals and an assist for the Black Cats, proving to be a shining light in what was a miserable year for Sunderland on their return to the second-tier.

Sunderland finished bottom of the Championship table, suffering a second successive relegation, leaving them facing up to life in the third tier of English football.

Whilst Jack Ross is preparing his squad for life in League One, Championship-bound Swansea are cherry-picking Sunderland’s talent.

Graham Potter is a big fan of Asoro and is close to adding the young Swedish forward to his squad.

The Verdict

Sunderland find themselves in a difficult position, with Asoro looking likely to be heading for the exit door.

The 19-year-old is a talent, who will be sorely missed at the Stadium of Light.

However, for Sunderland, they need to just try and get the best deal possible for the teenager.

Whatever fee is received needs to also be pumped back into strengthening Ross’ squad.
