Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady appears to have taken another step towards returning to full fitness after the club released footage of him in full training on Tuesday.

The Scot was filmed during what appeared to be a one versus one drill with McGeady challenging one of his teammates to challenge him.

The 32-year-old showed he still had the guile and the agility however as he tricked his way around the challengers to come out on top.

Another clip showed him nutmegging teammate George Honeyman casually before laying the ball off to another player.

McGeady moved to the Stadium of Light from Everton last summer and was one of the club's rare good performers during their relegation to League One.

He scored seven goals and assisted five more before missing the last two games of the season through the injury that he is still carrying today.

Sunderland have enjoyed a great start to the season without McGeady, however, as Jack Ross's side remain unbeaten after the opening seven games of the season and sit in fourth place behind Peterborough United, Portsmouth and Barnsley.

The verdict

McGeady will be like a new signing when he returns for Jack Ross's side.

The fact they have managed to enjoy such a good start to the season makes his return all the more promising.

Imagine what they will be able to do with him in the team as well?
