Sunderland have accepted a bid from Torino for Didier Ndong, according to Roker Report.

Torino have been heavily interested in the Gabonese international with a previous failed bid, but it appears they have finally come to an agreement with Sunderland.

The 23-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Watford after failing to impress Chris Coleman.

However, he didn't make a league appearance for the Hornets as Javi Gracia neglected to use him due to the midfield options at his disposal.

Ndong was signed from Lorient in 2016, but struggled to impress amid the high expectations.

His time at the club has seen them suffer consecutive relegations due to poor planning and instability, so this is a good move for him because he will be playing in Serie A next season under former Watford coach Walter Mazzarri.

The Verdict

This is an excellent piece of business for Sunderland because they are recouping a significant part of the transfer fee, with £6.6m reported as the amount earlier in the week, for a player who hasn't impressed and didn't play at all in the last four months of the season. Stewart Donald deserves credit for keeping a hard bargaining line on a player that didn't have a future at the club.

Moves such as this show the benefit of new owners because the club is getting a lot more value for money, which should end some of the financial mismanagement that was a recurring theme under Ellis Short. The club can't afford to take financial risks anymore due to their current situation, so this money needs to be used wisely, and hopefully it will be used on bolstering the squad.
