What a season it's been for Reading, and whether they win promotion or not Jaap Stam will face an extremely busy summer.

The Royals are currently in fourth place following an astonishing season that, frankly, nobody saw coming.

A number of pundits and fans tipped them for relegation ahead of pre-season, but the appointment of Stam has proven to be a masterstroke, with his philosophy of possession based football giving them a very fair shot at Premier League football next year.

However, even if their play-off campaign ends in disaster, the club will face busy and tough transfer window and will face a heavy battle to keep their star players as well as capitalising on the position they've built this year.

There are additions that will need to be made to beef up the squad, and whether they win promotion or not, here are THREE players Stam should scout ahead of this summer....

Roger Marti - Levante

Jaap Stam and technical director Brian Tevreden enjoyed exploring Europe in an aim to bring in new players over the summer and could look to Roger Marti in the Spanish Segunda Division when looking at a new striker.

Stam has mainly relied on Yann Kermorgant up front this year but at 35-years-old the Frenchman may not be able to continue with another full season next term, especially closing in on retirement.

The Royals could do with Roger up front, with 20 goals already this season for Levante, who are staring promotion in the face, he could score goals in both the Championship or the Premier League, something they'll really need.

Bakary Sako - Crystal Palace

A man proven at Championship level and struggling to fight his way into the Crystal Palace starting line up in the Premier League, Reading would be foolish not to make a move for Sako.

Roy Beerens currently occupies the left wing for Reading but has failed to make an enormous impression for them this season, thus making it likely they'll pursue an alternative option this summer.

Even in the Premier League, Sako could doubtlessly do a job for out wide if the wind were to be put back in his sails, and would make a fine signing.

Conor McLaughlin - Fleetwood Town

League One Team of the Season this year, Conor McLaughlin has built on an excellent season in 2015/16 with Fleetwood Town, and whether in the Championship or League One next season there will definitely be interest in the Northern Ireland international.

Chris Gunter has been a resounding weakness in the Royals starting eleven this season and a right back should be the priority this summer.

McLaughlin shouldn't cost too much for the club and would provide an extremely attractive option for Jaap Stam when looking for a new full back.
