After a rollercoaster of a season, Derby enter the final few games of the 2016/17 campaign with Gary Rowett in the dugout.

Nigel Pearson was the Rams boss at the beginning of the season, but he was dismissed after just 9 league matches in charge, winning just one of those matches.

Steve McClaren turned Derby's season around before the annual dip in form at Pride Park that saw the Rams drop out of the play-off race.

The poor run saw Derby drop points against teams in the bottom half, and fail to show any fight against the top sides like Brighton.

Gary Rowett took over ahead of the East Midlands derby, which ended 2-2 after a late Forest equaliser denied Rowett a winning start, but since then he's had a 100% record.

Wins over QPR, Fulham and his former club Birmingham have seen Derby pick up in terms of performances, leaving their fans with hope they can still make the play-offs.

Regardless of how this season ends, Derby's squad needs a cutting down and dead weight needs offloading.

The wage bill must be cut and players that simply aren't good enough need to be shown the door.

Gary Rowett needs to be clever with his transfer business this summer, here's 3 players he should send scouts to look at ahead of the summer transfer window...

Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins is a bright young talent who has been very impressive for League Two Exeter City this season.

Watkins, who burst onto the scene last season, has bagged 13 goals for the Grecians this season as they have put together a strong promotion push, sitting 6th in the League Two table.

Derby's squad isn't lacking wide players, but Nick Blackman and Abdoul Camara have both struggled for game time this season and could both be offloaded in the summer.

Ollie Watkins has great potential and Derby would perhaps be better investing in a young talent rather than a pricey player from the Premier League.

Ryan Kent

Ryan Kent, like Ollie Watkins, is also a promising winger.

Kent has spent this season on loan with Championship Barnsley from Premier League giants Liverpool, helping the Tykes comfortably avoid a relegation battle and sit in mid-table.

The 20-year-old has been one of the best players that the Oakwell crowd have seen this season, making 39 league appearances, contributing 2 goals.

One of his goals came in a massive win over fellow Yorkshire side Leeds United.

The winger is a talented player and still has his whole career ahead of him.

Liverpool may not be willing to part with Ryan Kent on a permanent basis, but Jurgen Klopp could allow him to seek another loan opportunity next season, and Derby would be a good destination for him.

Erhun Oztumer

Erhun Oztumer has had a great season in a Walsall shirt despite the Saddlers struggling to build on their top six finish last season.

Oztumer has bagged 14 goals for Walsall this season after joining from Peterborough United on a free last summer.

The Turkish man had also impressed during his at London Road where he made 50 league appearances over two seasons for Posh.

Oztumer has been a talent in League One for several years now and deserves a chance in the league above.

Derby could be the team to give him that chance as a centre midfielder or two could be shown the door at Pride Park this summer.
