Andrea Radrizzani was quick to try and make an impact at Leeds United following his takeover last summer, with some of his decisions shooting the club in the foot.
Leeds had enjoyed a successful start to the 2017/18 under Thomas Christiansen, with Radrizzani keen to reward some of his players.
Long-term contracts were handed out, with Eunan O’Kane amongst those to benefit after an extremely impressive start to the season in central midfield.
O’Kane was handed terms until the summer of 2021, with many seeing the Irishman as key in the engine room.

However, like Leeds’ season, O’Kane’s form dipped, with the 28-year-old subject to plenty of criticism from the Elland Road terrace.
There was more to Leeds’ slump than O’Kane’s poor form, but it became clear when Marcelo Bielsa arrived in the summer of 2018 that the midfielder’s days at LS11 were numbered.
Over the course of the summer just gone Leeds tried to find a move for O’Kane, with the midfielder eventually stepping down into League One to link up with Luton Town. Devastatingly for the player, he suffered a double leg break in September, which has ended his season.
He remains contracted at Elland Road until 2021, which brings us back to Radrizzani’s decision to hand out those long-term contract after a positive start to last season.
O’Kane’s form warranted an improved deal, but four years seemed excessive.
In our latest FLW Rewind, we look back at the day O’Kane signed his new deal at Leeds, focusing on the positive reaction that followed.
These supporters will feel they were wrong to back the decision…
