Sunderland's friendly against local non-league side South Shields has sold out this weekend, as reported by the club's official Twitter feed.

The Black Cats' pre-season preparations will take them to the 2017 FA Vase winners, a game likely to be watched be 3,000 fans in their home ground, Mariners Park.

It's a typical fixture for a bigger side in the early stages of pre-season, a visit to a local side that brings a full house and helps them out with budgeting for the following season. Shields, who play in step seven of the English setup, will likely get few capacity attendances during their league campaign.

It's also a chance for Jack Ross to look at his players after the summer break, assess how sharp they are and doubtless run an eye over a few trialists as well.

Whilst the fixture may be standard, the responses on the social media post have not been glowing. The game isn't as important in the Sunderland fan's eyes as some pressing matters, such as the takeover, new players and the upcoming away kit release, as you'll see from their social media responses.

As always, even the odd Newcastle fan took time out to leave a comment as well.
