David Prutton is expecting Wolverhampton Wanderers to suffer their second defeat of the week this evening when they face Southampton, reports Sky Sports.
Writing in his prediction column for Sky, Prutton is predicting a 2-1 victory for last year’s finalists, handing Nuno Espirito Santo’s side a second defeat of the week.
Wolves have started the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season exceptionally, and picked up three victories from their first three fixtures of the campaign.
However, Wolves suffered a 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City over the weekend, losing both their 100% record and ground on the Bluebirds, who themselves remain unbeaten after four fixtures.
Nuno’s side now turn their attention to the clash with Southampton in the Carabao Cup, where they will be looking to progress to the third-round.
During the first-round, Wolves beat Yeovil Town 1-0, with Nouha Dicko’s goal earning the Championship outfit a clash with Southampton.
Southampton reached last season’s League Cup final, where they lost 3-2 to Manchester United, and Prutton is once again expecting a strong start from the Saints in the competition.
Southampton have enjoyed a positive start to their 2017/18 Premier League campaign, picking up four points from their opening two fixtures, thanks to a draw with Swansea City and victory over West Ham United.
It is easy to see why Prutton has gone for a Southampton win, with the Premier League outfit starting the season well and surely fancying their chances of once again of competing to win the Carabao Cup.
However, the result could depend on the sort of team Nuno plays.
If Wolves are at full strength, they have the quality to really test Southampton at St Mary’s, but with a promotion push on the cards, the likelihood is that Nuno will opt to rest some of his key men – leaving Southampton favourites.
