‘Stupid’, ‘Very dangerous’ – Loads of Sheffield Wednesday fans react to turning point during Blackburn thumping

Sheffield Wednesday suffered their third consecutive defeat on home soil on Saturday afternoon as they crashed to an emphatic 5-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers.
The Owls fell behind to Lewis Holtby’s 19th-minute effort before Massimo Luongo was shown the red card for a dangerous challenge on Lewis Travis, and the floodgates then opened after this as Rovers sealed a resounding win at Hillsborough.
The result means Wednesday have now lost serious ground in their hunt for a play-off place, with their goal difference taking a significant hit, and many of the club’s supporters will identify Luongo’s red-card incident as the point of no return.
Luongo was making his second consecutive start for the Owls following his display during the 2-0 win over Leeds last weekend, but he endured a more miserable afternoon on this occasion as his late tackle proved to be key to how the match panned out.

Plenty of Wednesday fans have taken to Twitter to offer their verdict on the dismissal with many of them claiming Luongo made a poor decision to commit the challenge, but some fans did offer an alternative view by claiming the midfielder should not have been dismissed.
Here are some of their reactions…
I'm sorry but no one can convince me that the result would have been any different if Luongo hadn't seen red. His presence on the pitch wouldn't have made us any less inept, woeful stuff from us from the first kick to the last #swfc

Sorry but the sending off is no excuse. It was a sending off – anyone who has played the game knows that was an over-the-top tackle. Looks innocuous but very dangerous. Straight red & Luongo was an idiot for doing it.#swfc

Stupid tackle by Luongo so early in the game, it is going to be a long afternoon… #swfc

How is that even a red card. It's not even a yellow. If Luongo's left foot was 2/3 inch to the left. Travis would be sending him to Northern General #swfc

You better appeal that, cause that was never a red. Ref thought luongo stomped, but he didn't.

That Luongo challenge wasn't even a yellow.
Will more than likely get rescinded #swfc
