Sheffield Wednesday suffered their third consecutive defeat on home soil on Saturday afternoon as they crashed to an emphatic 5-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers.

The Owls fell behind to Lewis Holtby's 19th-minute effort before Massimo Luongo was shown the red card for a dangerous challenge on Lewis Travis, and the floodgates then opened after this as Rovers sealed a resounding win at Hillsborough.

The result means Wednesday have now lost serious ground in their hunt for a play-off place, with their goal difference taking a significant hit, and many of the club's supporters will identify Luongo's red-card incident as the point of no return.

Luongo was making his second consecutive start for the Owls following his display during the 2-0 win over Leeds last weekend, but he endured a more miserable afternoon on this occasion as his late tackle proved to be key to how the match panned out.
