Rochdale have clinched the signing of defender Tyler Magloire on a season-long loan deal from Blackburn Rovers, as confirmed by their official site.
The 20-year-old centre back joins Dale after making just two appearances for his parent club last season. He appeared in consecutive matches against Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday in March, but has otherwise been restricted to Under 23 football at Ewood Park.
Tony Mowbray clearly sees a spell in senior football as vital to the young defender’s development and Rochdale are the beneficiary. The youngster admitted the change of club would be a new challenge, but one that he is relishing.
“I have been at Blackburn Rovers since I was nine, so I’m stepping out of my comfort zone coming here, which is a good thing,” he told the club site.
“It’ll be a new challenge for me but I’m ready to step up to that challenge. I can’t wait to get started.”
Blackburn fans haven’t exactly welcomed the move. Journalist Rich Sharpe tweeted that although Magloire was leaving on loan, it didn’t mean Tony Mowbray had any plans to replace him with a new face.
That led to a backlash on Twitter, with many Rovers’ fans questioning the club’s decision.
This Window has been more a case of Defenders are going rather than 'Defenders are coming'. #MowbrayOut

Stupid stupid decision again by Tony borebray, not learnt anything from almost sending travis out in favour of smallwood now he's sending out a lad that could be a star for us this season who's been knocking on the door for some time, the mans out of his depth

How has the direct question not been asked? "Tony, you look severely short on defenders, any chance of defensive incomings?"

"Defenders are coming" I make that 1 in 4 out so far

No way should he be leaving unless we have a cb lined up. Furious with Mowbray how he’s not addressed the defence. 3 of the back 4 that started Saturday just not good enough

This concerns me a little .. I did think he was one that may break through this season .. would like to have the options as let’s face it defence is not our strongest area
