Sheffield Wednesday picked up their second win Championship of the season today by beating Birmingham City 1-0 at St Andrew's and many Owls fans have heaped praise on captain Barry Bannan.

The Wednesday skipper made no mistake from the penalty spot in the second half, scoring the decisive goal after Callum Paterson was fouled inside the box.

It was another impressive display from the Scotsman, whose influence was clear to see from central midfield.

Reports suggested that Wednesday rejected two late bids from Brentford for the 30-year-old ahead of Friday's deadline for domestic transfers.

Holding onto him proved useful today as it was his goal that helped them beat the Blues and claim another three points.

The Owls remain bottom of the table after starting the season with a 12-point deduction but have now moved to -4 points.

Do Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United have these 10 things in common?

Bannan's performance appears to have been a highlight on a fruitful afternoon for Wednesday fans, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
