Nottingham Forest manager Stuart Pearce has admitted to the Nottingham Post it may be tough for him to land a striker this January.

Forest have been put under a transfer embargo for breaching financial fair play rules and are unable to pay any club for a player.

The embargo prevents them from signing a player on a free transfer or loaning out any player with over £10, 000 in wages a week.

Forest have been linked with a move for Leon Best on loan this week, after he returned to Blackburn Rovers due to his loan being cancelled at Derby.

Britt Assombalonga, Matty Fryatt and Dexter Blackstock are all suffering with injuries, so Pearce will be looking to add another forward to bolster their options.

Stuart Pearce told the Nottingham Post: "Strikers do make the difference in games. It is fair to say we are looking at a couple of positions and we only have two positions in the squad we can fill. We will continually make phone calls and see where that takes us.

"Strikers are the hardest players to sign, because everyone wants to hold on to them. Plus, if you go and bring in a player in a certain position and, in a few weeks' time, a few of your current squad come back from injury, all of a sudden you can have too many on your books. It is something we will consider.

"We will continually look to see what is available in the loan market. If there is anyone out there we feel can improve us, we will look to do something."

Forest came from behind to defeat arch-rivals Derby County  2-1 on Saturday and they came into the game without a win in six.
