Blackpool have been on an upward trajectory since Neil Critchley took the reins at Bloomfield Road and former assistant manager Stuart McCall has now heaped another lot of praise on the club, telling the Blackpool Gazette that he feels the side have the 'best atmosphere.'

The Seasiders have been in limbo over the last few seasons. With ownership issues, fan boycotts and the club sliding down the EFL, it looked bleak for the Bloomfield Road outfit.

However, after a new owner saved the side and Neil Critchley was brought in to lead the club, things have been looking up.

The former Liverpool man managed to get the club promoted back out of League One and into the Championship now, where they have looked like they could compete at the very top of the table at times.

They have fallen down the table slightly in recent weeks but are still doing solidly in their first campaign back in the second tier. Now, they have been handed even more praise by Stuart McCall, who has recently departed the team.

McCall was assistant at Blackpool before being lured to Sheffield United by Paul Heckingbottom. However, he continues to make positive comments about his old club and the latest he has offered up to the Blackpool Gazette is that the Seasiders have had 'the best atmosphere' at their ground this season.

He said: "I’ve got to be honest and I’m not just saying this to blow smoke, but even from the pre-season game against Burnley - and maybe it’s because I wasn’t used to crowds being back in - but even though there were only 2,000 or 3,000 there, the atmosphere created behind the goal was nice and lively.

"It’s the best atmosphere I’ve been to this season in a home stadium and people mention it all the time."

Bloomfield Road has certainly seen some excellent football so far this campaign - and it appears the crowd noise is backing it up as well.

The Verdict

Blackpool have done superbly to get back to where they are now. From the depths of the EFL to being back in the Championship and fighting at the top end of the table at times, it has been a fantastic turnaround.

No doubt the fans are delighted to see such good football being played by their team again - and that has no doubt played a part in how vocal they are now being.

If your team plays good football, then it will be backed by the fans in the stand. The Seasiders are certainly doing just that and the supporters are certainly behind them.

McCall too has been full of praise about his time working at the team - so he'll be endearing himself to Blackpool fans a lot even though he has now since departed the club.
