Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has confirmed that the club have received offers from several League One sides for Matty Taylor.

The striker saw a move to Charlton Athletic collapse on the final day of the transfer window for Premier League and Championship sides, although clubs in the lower tiers are still free to sign players until the 2nd September, and it looks as though Taylor could benefit from that extension.

Earlier in the window, Taylor's former club Oxford United were linked with a move for the 29-year-old, although U's boss Karl Robinson has since played down the prospect of a return to the Kassam Stadium for the striker.

Despite that, it does seem as though there is still plenty of interest in Taylor from the third tier, with Johnson telling the Bristol Post: "Yes, there’s been a couple of offers for Matty from League One, obviously the window is still open there and we’ve had really good lines of communication with Matty."

Discussing his view on the situation, Johnson added: "So I like Matty Taylor and we’ve got to do the right thing for him and obviously the football club as well."

Taylor joined the Robins from their city rivals Bristol Rovers in January 2017, and has since gone onto make 75 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring nine times.

There are now less than 12 months remaining on Taylor's contract at Ashton Gate, meaning he could leave the club for free at the end of this season.

The Verdict

The fact that offers are coming in for Taylor looks to be a good thing for all concerned.

For the striker himself, it seems as though it is likely he will be able to move elsewhere in order to get more regular first-team football, something which you feel he needs at the age of 29.

It also seems as though this will suit Bristol City themselves, since it should allow them to receive at least some sort of fee for Taylor, rather than seeing him leave for free next summer.

Given Taylor's record in the third tier, and his recent experience in the Championship, you can understand the amount of League One interest there is in the striker, and there could be quite a clamour for his signature in the final couple of weeks before the transfer deadline in the third tier.
