Phil Parkinson has endured a mixed start to his Sunderland tenure, but will be hoping to get things on track on the FA Cup first round.

The Black Cats welcome Gillingham to the Stadium Of Light on Saturday afternoon in the hope that they can kickstart their season with a victory over their League One rivals.

Parkinson's side secured a 1-0 victory over Southend last weekend, before a much-changed side fell to a 2-1 defeat against Leicester City U23s on Tuesday.

However with no league fixtures for at least a week, it's likely that Parkinson will be keen to go all out for victory in this one.

With that in mind, here's the line up that we think Parkinson should select in the FA Cup first round.

Phil Parkinson made eight changes for the clash with Leicester City on Tuesday, but it's likely that the Sunderland boss will revert to the team that started against Southend last week.

Jon McLaughlin should start in goal, while Conor McLaughlin, Jordan Willis, Joel Lynch and Denver Hume are expected to line up in defence.

Max Power is expected to return alongside George Dobson, while Luke O'Nien, Chris Maguire and Aiden McGeady will add the attacking flair to Phil Parkinson's side, with Maguire and O'Nien causing plenty of problems as they switch between the right flank and the number 10 role.

While goals have been at a premium for him so far this term, Will Grigg is expected to lead the line once again in the hope that the distraction of the FA Cup will see him recapture his goalscoring form.
