Julio Baptista has reportedly left Bolton Wanderers following a trial with the club, and will not be signing a deal, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.

The former Arsenal man had been training with the Trotters with a view to a short-term deal, but manager Phil Parkinson has decided against offering terms to the player, despite the club propping up the Championship table.

The 35-year-old former Brazilian international most recently enjoyed a spell in the MLS - where he scored 6 times in 23 league appearances - and will now continue his search for a new club.

Bolton have struggled in the second tier since promotion from League One last term, and are yet to win a game in the league this season.

The Verdict

The football world was shocked when Bolton announced that Baptista was at the club for a trial spell, and despite spending several weeks with the club, the player has now moved on to new opportunities.

Perhaps the plan all along was for the Brazilian to train with the club for a short spell in order to regain and maintain his fitness, or perhaps the player was not deemed good enough to make Parkinson’s squad.

Nixon does reply to a fan in his Twitter thread agreeing that Baptista was never a Parkinson signing, so perhaps the manager was given the final say in the decision.

Bolton fans, would you have the player a short-term deal?
