It has been a dream start to the Sky Bet Championship season for Sheffield United, who are adapting well to life back in the second-tier.

The Blades are currently sat third in the Championship table, with Chris Wilder’s side surprising many by keeping pace with the division’s leading pack, which includes the likes of Cardiff City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wilder has masterminded victories over the likes of Wolves already this season, and is fast becoming recognised as one of English football’s most promising managers.

Wilder’s next task will be helping the Blades maintain their place in the Championship’s top-six, with the hope that his side can stage an unexpected back-to-back promotion.

Here at FLW, we believe that if Wilder is serious about pushing on with Sheffield United and achieving promotion to the Premier League, then the January transfer window could be key.

With that in mind, here is a look at a player we believe could be axed, and one that must be brought to Bramall Lane to improve Wilder’s squad…

OUT – James Hanson

Hanson helped the Blades out massively last season, playing a role in Wilder’s squad gaining promotion from League One.

However, the striker does not appear to feature in Sheffield United’s plans for the Championship, and it is likely that we will see him leave during the January transfer window.

Whilst £225k-rated Hanson has not been handed an opportunity to showcase his quality in the Championship, it would be a surprise if he didn’t drop down into the third-tier again.

IN – Ricky Holmes

Wilder is a known admirer of Holmes, with Sheffield United desperately trying to sign the 30-year-old during the summer transfer window.

Despite Holmes agreeing a new deal with Charlton Athletic, the likelihood is that the attacking midfielder will have remained on Sheffield United’s radar after an impressive start to the 2017/18 campaign.

Holmes has scored four goals already this season, and has added a further five assists.
