Henri Lansbury is a player who is probably yet to fill the massive potential he once had when coming through the ranks at Arsenal and then at Nottingham Forest.

He was another who was meant to be a future England star, but a mixture of poor performances and horrible injuries have hampered him.

Lansbury is a box-to-box central midfielder and was meant to be cut from the same cloth as the likes of Frank Lampard.

He made the move from Nottingham Forest to Aston Villa at the start of the 2017/18 season after a string of impressive seasons with Forest.

So what are the strengths and weaknesses of the 28-year-old? What sort of season can we expect him to have?

So let's start with his strengths.

His passing is outstanding at Championship level and in an array of ranges. Long raking passes, clever through balls, set-pieces and just keeping it neat and tidy in midfield, Lansbury is very good at it.

He is a workhorse as well. The sort of player the fans instantly adore for his relentless work rate, he is able to keep going right until the end of matches without his quality dipping.

When he gets a chance he often takes it as well, usually arriving late in the style of England's other great midfielders of the last ten years to finish emphatically.

But the midfielder has his weaknesses. After all, there must be a reason he is not in Russia right now.

His discipline is rather poor to start with. In the 255 appearances he has made in the Championship he has been booked 72 times.

In three of his last five seasons, he has received ten or more yellow cards.

He is also someone who has been blighted by injury. He only made 11 appearances last season after a knee injury. It is something that has hampered him during his time at Arsenal, Norwich, West Ham and Forest as well.

Lansbury is clearly still an immensely talented player with a lot to offer, and one can only hope he can put his injury issues to bed this season.
