After a season that resulted in a disappointing ninth place finish for Nottingham Forest, manager Martin O'Neill now has the task of assessing one of the largest squads in the Championship, as he looks to stamp his own mark on the squad and prepare it for a concerted top-six challenge next season.

With the announcement of Forest's retained list this summer it is obvious that change is afoot at the City Ground, with a handful of players leaving the club at the end of their contract or their loan spell, while a number of under-23 players have also been released.

So where should O'Neill be strengthening his squad ahead of next season?

We discuss.........

Gary Hutchinson

“In goal, in defence, in midfield and in attack.

“Keep Lolley, Matty Cash and Joao Carvalhais looking to o. Blood Yates slowly.

“Other than that, I’d say everyone is game.

“I’m not convinced many of last season’s squad deserve a second chance.”

Ben Lang

“O’Neill needs to clear out a number of players before he starts strengthening the squad. There is a lot of dead wood.

“Once they’ve moved on some players, Forest could do with adding a top quality striker and keeping Sam Byram at the club, while also strengthening the defence significantly.

“It needs to be a summer of plentiful change at the City Ground.”

Toby Wilding

"For me it has to be attack.

"Other than Lewis Grabban and Joe Lolley, no one has even got close to double figures for goals this season.

"As good as two are, they cannot rely on just two people to find the net regularly over the course of the campaign if they to challenge for a Premier League place."

Louie Chandler

"Strengthen by selling.

"I believe that Forest have more than enough in their ranks to break into the top six, but their squad is far too big.

"O'Neill is always going to struggle to do much if he has so many players at his disposal so trimming down is a must."
