‘Strap yourself in’ – Plenty of Brentford fans react as Arsenal prospect joins

Brentford have added to their defensive options this morning by bringing in Arsenal left back Dominic Thompson on a permanent deal, as confirmed by their official club site.

The 19-year-old has penned a three-year deal at Griffin Park, with the option of a fourth year also included. He’ll likely play understudy to Rico Henry, although the 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Celtic in the last 24 hours.

Championship Picks

The capture of Thompson could be seen as a move to replace Henry, but Thomas Frank moved quickly to allay those fears, confirming he was intended to bring competition for the left back spot, rather than being brought in as preparation for a departure.

“Dominic is a player that can continue to develop, and all the coaching staff here are looking forward to helping him get to the next level while also competing with Rico Henry for our left wing back position,” said the club’s head coach.

That’s delighted supporters on social media who were fearful that they might see their prize asset leave for Parkhead today.

They’ve been on Twitter welcoming the former Gunners’ defender to the club, but also welcoming the news Henry appears to be staying with the Bees.
