‘Straight into the team on Saturday’ – A number of Blackburn fans assess their club’s new defensive option

Blackburn Rovers have added a fresh option to their squad on the final day of the summer transfer window, after announcing the signing of defender Greg Cunningham.

The 28-year-old, who has joined on a season-long loan from fellow Championship side Cardiff City, becomes the third recognised senior left-back in Tony Mowbray’s squad, after Amari’i Bell and Derrick Williams, the latter of whom has featured more in the centre of defence in recent times.

Cunningham only joined Cardiff from Preston last summer, but struggled to make an impact during his time in Wales, making a total of just eight appearances for Neil Warnock’s side.

With confirmation of Cunningham’s move, Blackburn have now completed the signings of six new players in this transfer window. Midfield duo Stewart Downing and Bradley Johnson, as well as striker Sam Gallagher, have all signed permanent deals with the club, while Brighton goalkeeper Christian Walton and Manchester City defender Tosin Adarabioyo have also joined on loan until the end of the season.

Championship Picks

Taking to Twitter to react to news of Cunningham’s arrival, plenty of Blackburn fans were keen to assess how Cunningham will fit into their side.

Here, we take a look at what some of them had to say.
