Remember when Queens Park Rangers were in the Premier League and were making signings for absolute fun?

The summer of 2012 was on the busiest periods in the club's history as they splashed out as the likes of Stephane Mbia, Samba Diakite, Junior Hoillet and Ji Sung Park all arrived at Loftus Road just a year after they were promoted to the Premier League.

But the name that caught the eye the most was Real Madrid midfielder Esteban Granero who moved to the club for around £7 million.

This is FLW Rewind where we take a look back at an iconic event in a club's recent history, look at the initial reaction and how it all worked out in the end.

When the signing of Granero was announced it was met with a mixed response from the fans.

Some saw him as a terrific addition whilst others were growing tired of the club's policy in the window.

The midfielder was thrown straight into the starting line-up against title holders Manchester City just two days after arriving at the club and the R's were predictably beaten comfortably, losing 3-1.

He played the full 90 minutes of ten of the club's next 11 Premier League games, but the Rs did not win a single one of them despite scoring his first and only goal for the club in a 3-2 loss to West Brom.

After the shoddy run of form, Mark Hughes was relieved of his managerial duties to be replaced by Harry Redknapp which would turn out to be bad news for Granero.

Rangers' first win since the Spaniard arrived at the club finally came midway through December in a 2-1 win against Fulham - But he did not play a single minute of the match.

In fact, Granero had a tough time of it under Redknapp and started just seven more times that season as the Rs desperately battled relegation.

But it was to no avail.

A bottom place finish meant they were relegated back into the Championship and Granero moved back to Spain to Real Sociedad, initially on loan before joining permanently the following summer.
