New Reading boss Mark Bowen has led training for the first time since being appointed the club's new manager on Monday afternoon.

The Welshman has replaced Jose Gomes in the Madejski Stadium hot seat after the Portuguese was relieved of his duties at the club following a 1-0 defeat to Bristol City last week.

Bowen, who was formerly the club's director of football, enters his new role with Reading sitting third from bottom in the Championship having won just two of their opening 11 league matches.

This is the first time the 55-year-old has been appointed permanent manager of a side, with his previous coaching experience seeing him serve as an assistant manager at the likes of Blackburn, Fulham, Manchester City and Stoke.

Reading have now taken to Twitter to share images of Bowen leading training for the first time since succeeding Gomes as manager:

Plenty of Reading supporters responded to this tweet with many of them continuing to criticise the club's appointment of Bowen, with many Royals fans evidently unhappy with Bowen's promotion to the role of first-team manager.

Here are some of the responses...
