Stoke City have had a poor first third of the season and though there has been a slight up-turn in recent weeks, that has seen the Potters up to 14th in the table, this has done little to paper over the glaring cracks in Gary Rowett's side.

But of all the issues at the bet365 stadium, what is the main factor that will stop Stoke from getting promoted this season?

We discuss.....

I think it will be down to how they play the January transfer window.

If it’s a less than adequate arrangement of signings, then they could well struggle to make the top six.

Gary Rowett knows what Stoke need, and if they can go out and get their first choice targets, then they could well have every chance of making it back to the Premier League at the first time if asking.

Not getting the best out of Afobe.

The forward has been disappointing this season scoring just 5 goals in 18 outings, and much more was expected of him after signing for a hefty fee from Wolves.

Whether it’s signing a new forward to push him to his best, I’m not sure...

Well, Stoke will not be getting promoted full stop.

You have to question the job Gary Rowett has done. He brought in some brilliant players during the summer but is yet to get them playing well.

I would say their striking options are far from good enough. Afobe is inconsistent whilst Crouch and Berahino just are not good enough.
