Geoff Cameron is on the verge of joining QPR, according to West London Sport.

The American is set to have a medical today ahead of a move which will see him join the club permanently, after spending last season on loan at the club.

The Stoke midfielder was sidelined by injury for much of the campaign and only made 19 appearances, but despite that and a change in manager, the player looks set to rejoin.

The 34-year-old has a year remaining on his contract at Stoke but is one of eight players Nathan Jones has cast aside from his first-team plans, as Stoke look to remove their higher earners off the wage bill.

The R's have had to be patient in their pursuit of Cameron due to the player negotiating a financial settlement with The Potters, but it is believed that is close to being finalised opening up the opportunity to join the London club.

He should suit Mark Warburton very well though, and his versatility is just what QPR need considering their own financial constraints.

The Verdict

Cameron could be a very good signing for QPR, but his success will largely depend on his ability to stay fit throughout the season.

He performed well as a defensive midfielder last season and it was no surprise that QPR's best results came when he was in the side, with the club losing just six of the 19 games he featured in.

He is able to cover in defence too and that flexibility is invaluable across a long season. He clearly likes playing for the club too and his arrival should help to boost morale within the squad, which will further benefit the team.
