Stoke City look set to make a £3m move for Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay, according to a report from the Sun on Sunday.

The Potters are keen on signing the defender, who has been in impressive form for the Reds ever since making the move to the South Yorkshire club from Partick Thistle.

It was believed that former Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino was willing to take Lindsay to Italy with Brescia, but the report today claims that Cellino was only willing to pay half the amount Stoke are set to stump up for the Barnsley man.

The 23-year-old would become the latest in a long line of players to make the grade at Barnsley and secure big money moves to pastures new, with the likes of Marc Roberts and Alfie Mawson doing the same in recent times at Oakwell.

Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel will have been hoping to keep hold of his star players following promotion from League One last season, but knows he will be powerless to resist the lure of extra money that Lindsay will have on offer from the Potters.

Stoke manager Nathan Jones is set to oversee a summer overhaul at the club this summer following last season's disappointing campaign.

The Verdict

This is a shame for Barnsley if they do lose Lindsay, but is one of those inevitable transfers which the Reds can probably do little about.

Lindsay has been superb since moving to Oakwell but with good form comes interest, and he'd be hard pressed to turn down a move to the Potters.

He can only improve too at 23, and at £3m, he'd be a shrewd signing by Nathan Jones.
