According to West London Sport Geoff Cameron has stepped up his efforts to leave Stoke City, with a move to QPR on the cards.

The American spent last season on loan at The R's and the club is thought to be keen on bringing him back despite a change in manager.

Cameron is no longer considered part of first-team plans at Stoke after Nathan Jones decided he would be one of eight players not to join the club's pre-season tour of the Netherlands.

He still has a year remaining on his contract but if he can reach a settlement with the club then he could move to QPR on a free. Failing that, there is still the option of the 34-year-old joining on loan once again.

The midfielder has played for Stoke since 2012, and made 186 appearances for the club before falling out of favour last year under then-manager Gary Rowett.

The move to QPR looked to revive his career but he struggled with injury issues and only made 19 appearances across the season, but still showed his quality and looks to have earned himself a new permanent deal with the club.

The Verdict

It is best for all parties involved that Stoke and Cameron reach a settlement which allows him to move on and join QPR.

Jones has added midfielders Nick Powell and Jordan Cousins to the club already this summer which means Cameron has fallen down the pecking order, and getting rid of him should free up wages to invest in strengthening the squad.

Providing he stays fit Cameron's versatility should serve QPR very well this season. He has a commanding presence in midfield and he can be effective in both boxes. He will provide an excellent screen for the defence, which is already looking stronger since the arrival of Warburton.
