Stoke City will want to put the 2018/19 season firmly behind them after a disastrous campaign saw them finish 16th.

It is time for a fresh start at the club, Nathan Jones is in charge for his first pre-season and he will be looking to prepare the squad ahead of a promotion challenge next summer.

It could be a summer of movement in the Potteries. A number of players have come back to the club after loan spells, and the club has already sighted possible transfer targets, with defenders Matthew Pennington and Matt Clarke mentioned.

Jones has a lot of work to do if he is to reverse Stoke's fortunes. Since arriving he has won just three of his 21 games in charge, and will need a good start to the season if he is to get the fans onside.

Stoke players have needed some time off after the miserable season they endured, and some of the things they've been getting up to can be viewed here:

Jack Butland

Butland hasn't enjoyed much of a break so far. He has been involved in England training as part of their Nations League preparation.

He will be hoping to appear against the Netherlands and potentially in the final if England progress, although the man he is pictured with may have something to say about that.

The Stoke no.1 could be in for a restless summer as he becomes embroiled in a transfer battle which could see him move back to the Premier League.

Peter Etebo

Etebo is another Stoke player who has been away on international duty this summer, with Nigeria.

The Super Eagles are competing in the African Cup of Nations later this month, where they will play Burundi, Guinea and Madagascar in the group stages.

The midfielder will hope to be part of Gernot Rohr's plans, but either way it is a good way for him to put a disappointing season to the back of his mind.

Josh Tymon

The Stoke full-back has been enjoying time away from the Potteries by visiting Barcelona.

Here he is pictured with former teammate Charlie Dunkerley - the pair played for each other in Hull City's academy.

Tymon barely featured for Stoke last season, so should be determined to impress Jones ahead of the next campaign if he is to force his way into the side.

Erik Pieters

Pieters shared a snap of him and his wife shopping in Amiens, the city where Pieters has called home for the last four months after joining Amiens FC on loan in February.

The full back has been at Stoke since 2013, but judging by his enjoyment in this photo he may be willing to move away from the club long-term.

He has made 190 appearances for The Potters and Stoke fans would be disappointed to see him go.

Tyrese Campbell

Campbell is another player enjoying his time away in the sun.

The 19-year-old spent the season on loan at Shrewsbury this season, scoring four goals in 15 appearances in League One.

He will be determined to break into the Stoke team on a more consistent basis this season, after appearing in the first team on six occasions last season.
