Stoke are chasing the signature of a two time Premier League winner if their goalkeeper Jack Butland leaves the club.

The Sun reports that Aston Villa are lining up a £20million bid for Butland, and Stoke want Joe Hart to be the man to replace him.

The ex-England international has 75 caps to his name but has fallen out of favour at Burnley, where he is now widely considered third choice, behind Tom Heaton and Nick Pope.

According to the report, Hart may be available for less than the £3.5million that Burnley paid for him last summer. However, Stoke are not the only club after the 32-year-old, with Tony Mowbray also wanting a new a keeper at Blackburn this summer.

Joe Hart has struggled for game time since joining Burnley. He started 21 games last year, nineteen in the Premier League and two in the Europa League.

The Verdict

Joining Stoke would be an interesting prospect for Hart and another chance to give his career any sort of revival.

Hart has had it rough since Guardiola deemed him surplus to requirements. It's been a steep drop: he's spent his last two seasons being second choice - or lower - at West Ham and Burnley.

However, while making a few errors, there is still evidence of the keeper who was winning Premier Leagues with City.

Hart is a great shot stopper, and with an extended run in the side could find his feet again.

While losing Jack Butland will not be ideal for Stoke, if they can get £20million for him and spend a tenth of that replacing him with Hart, then they would have done well.
