Stoke City have had their fair share of signings over the years that haven't hit the heights originally set for them at the bet365 Stadium.

The Potters' days of playing their football in the Premier League will feel like a distant memory for plenty of the club's supporters.

Michael O'Neill's side are in their third consecutive season in the Championship, and are currently sat 11th in the second-tier standings as they head towards their final eight matches of this year's campaign.

We take a look at Stoke City's top-ten most expensive ever signings and see what they're up to nowadays.

Find out who kicks us off at number ten, on the next page....

Kenwyne Jones is the first player on the list at number ten, with the former Stoke City forward signing for the club from Sunderland in the 2010/11 season for a fee of £8.73million.

Jones went on to make 130 appearances for the Potters, and chipped in with 31 goals in all competitions for Stoke, before departing in 2014, as he went on to sign for Cardiff City.

The forward had loan spells with both AFC Bournemouth and Al Jazira whilst with Cardiff, before making the permanent move to American side Atalanta United.

Jones called time on his playing career in 2016, and is a player that will be well-remembered for his services to Stoke City between 20102-2014.

Tom Ince is next up, with the former Stoke City man signing for the club from Huddersfield Town for a fee of £10.08million.

Ince had previously been on the books with Liverpool, before making a name for himself with Blackpool. He caught the eye with some impressive performances for Derby County and Huddersfield Town before earning a move to Stoke City.

He is still playing for the Potters, but previously found game time hard to come by before this year's campaign.

Ince is currently playing for Luton Town though, after being sent out on loan to Kenilworth Road earlier in the 2020/21 season, as he looks to find consistent minutes in the Championship.

Peter Crouch is in at number eight, with the former Stoke City striker signing for the club from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £10.17million.

Crouch established himself as a firm fans favourite in his time with Spurs, and had previously been playing for the likes of Liverpool, Southampton and Portsmouth prior to his move to the London-based side.

The forward went on to make 261 appearances for the Potters, and chipped in with 61 goals in his time with the club.

Crouch left Stoke in 2019, as he went on to sign for Burnley. It was at Turf Moor where he called time on his playing career, and he can regularly been heard talking about all things football on his own podcast.

Benik Afobe is next up, with the forward in at number seven for when he signed for the club from Wolves for a fee of £12.15million.

Afobe caught the eye with a number of impressive performances for Wolves, and played a starring role in their promotion-winning league campaign.

But he found game time hard to come by with them after that, and moved to the bet365 Stadium for the 2018/19 season after a successful loan spell.

Afobe is still contracted with Stoke, but has been out on loan in recent seasons. He spent last year's campaign on loan with Bristol City, but is now playing his football for Turkish side Trabzonspor.

Where do we start with this one? Berahino signed for Stoke City from West Brom for a fee of £12.51million.

The forward had shown what he's capable of whilst with the Baggies, and the Stoke City supporters would have every reason to believe that he could replicate those impressive showings with the Potters.

But for one reason or another, this didn't prove to be the case, as Berahino scored five goals in 56 appearances in total for Stoke City.

After some off-the-field issues, Berahino had his deal with Stoke City mutually terminated in the summer of 2019. He has since gone on to sign for Zulte-Waregem, although he has spent this year's campaign on loan with fellow Belgian side Charleroi.

Joe Allen is next up, with the Welsh midfielder signing for Stoke from Liverpool for the 2016/17 season for a fee of £13.95million.

The midfielder arrived with a considerable amount of experience under his belt from spells with both Swansea City and Liverpool in the past.

He has since gone on to make 177 appearances in total for the Potters, which includes 19 outings in all competitions this term.

Stoke aren't out of contention to make a late push for the play-off positions this season in the Championship, and Allen will be hoping that he can play his part in their bid to return to the Premier League.

Badou Ndiaye narrowly misses out on a place in the top-three, with the 30-year-old signing for Stoke City from Turkish giants Galatasaray for a fee of £14.40million.

He signed for the club whilst they were playing their football in the Premier League, but since they were relegated, the midfielder hasn't been involved much with the first-team.

Ndiaye has been out on loan with the likes of Galatasaray, Trabzonspor and Fatih Karagümrük, but has recently moved to Al-Ain on loan for the remainder of this year's campaign.

It remains to be seen as to what the future holds for Ndiaye, but it seems highly unlikely that he'll be involved in the Stoke City first-team anytime soon.

Shaqiri is the first name in the top-three, with the winger signing for Stoke City from Inter Milan for a fee of £15.30million.

The winger had an impressive CV before his move to the bet365 Stadium as well, having played for the likes of Bayern Munich earlier in his career.

Shaqiri showed glimpses of his quality whilst with Stoke, but was unable to stop them from being relegated into the Championship in the 2017/18 season.

The Swiss international moved to Liverpool in the summer of 2018, and has gone on to make 59 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side, who clinched the Premier League title last season.

Kevin Wimmer is next up, with the Austrian defender signing for Stoke City for a fee of £17.46million.

He arrived after a below-par spell with Tottenham Hotspur, and would have been eager to make a positive impact with Stoke, as he looked to make a name for himself in English football.

But that's yet to be the case for Wimmer, although the defender is still under contract with the Potters. However, he has spent the last three seasons out on loan. After spells with Hannover 96 and Mouscron, Wimmer currently finds himself playing his football for German side Karlsruher SC.

It remains to be seen as to whether Wimmer has much of a future with Stoke City heading towards the conclusion of the 2020/21 season.

Giannelli Imbula tops the list as Stoke City's most expensive transfer in their history, with the midfielder signing for the club from Portuguese side FC Porto for a fee of £21.83million.

It was a spell to forget for Imbula with the Potters though, as he only made 28 appearances for the club in total before departing in 2020, after various loan spells whilst with Stoke.

After a brief spell with Sochi, Imbula signed for Portuguese side Portimonense S.C, and he'll be hoping that he can finish this year's campaign with some minutes under his belt.

He only signed for the club earlier this term, and will be eager to prove himself with them, after a disappointing spell with Stoke City.
