Stoke City are looking to sign Middlesbrough keeper Darren Randolph if they lose Jack Butland.

The England international is widely expected to leave the Potters this summer, with several Premier League sides, including Aston Villa, believed to be interested in the stopper.

And, even though Nathan Jones has signed Barnsley's Adam Davies, TEAMtalk have revealed that they will be targeting a replacement for Butland and they claim Randolph is the man they want.

The Ireland international has established himself as one of the best keepers outside the top-flight over the years and he was outstanding for Boro in the previous campaign, which saw him named in the Team of the Year.

Therefore, he is an important part of Jonathan Woodgate's squad, however the report states that the Teesside outfit won't be able to resist a substantial offer for the player - or anyone else in the squad, as they prepare for another year in the Championship.

Should that happen TEAMtalk have also said that Boro would be interested in Sunderland's Jon McLaughlin.

The Verdict

This would be a very surprising move and you'd have to say it doesn't seem likely at all.

Even though Stoke will need more depth in goal, they have just signed Davies who will surely expect to be the number one if Butland departs - which seems inevitable.

As well as that, Boro will be reluctant to sell to a promotion rival, even if they need to bring funds in, so it will take a big offer from Stoke for the move to go through.

Having said all that, if it does happen then Stoke fans will surely be pleased as Randolph is clearly a top performer at this level and is arguably the best in the league.
