New faces could be arriving at Stoke City in the next few weeks, after manager Gary Rowett hinted that the club are looking into the free agent market.

The Potters brought in many new faces over the summer as they looked to bounce straight back to the top-flight at the first time of asking, but injury problems mean the club are considering some freebies.

"We will consider free agents," Rowett told his press conference ahead of the League Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.

"But I am not sure that signing somebody who hasn't played or trained for three months is necessarily the solution.

"I still believe we have the players in the building to turn our fortunes around significantly."

Mame Biram Diouf was substituted at half-time during the Potters' defeat to Blackburn Rovers at the weekend and is now expected to miss the clash with Nottingham Forest.

Problems at the back led to Tony Mowbray's side leading 2-0 at half-time on Saturday, with supporters booing Rowett's men from the field.

Just one minute into the second-half it was 3-0, and although goals from Saido Berahino and Tom Ince clawed them back into it, Stoke couldn't draw level with Berahino missing a late penalty.

The Verdict

I agree with Rowett here in that Stoke should not need to bring in any new faces.

He has been backed beyond any manager's dreams during the summer and has brought in some of the league's best players.

He now needs to get them playing on the field rather than relying on new faces.
