Stoke City are desperate to keep Jack Butland this summer and will offer him a huge pay rise of £20,000-per-week to keep him at the club, according to The Sun.

Interest is mounting in the Stoke goalkeeper and Chelsea are the latest club to enter the race for his signature.

The Premier League giants see Butland as the long-term replacement for Real Madrid target Thibaut Courtois with the Belgian entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Butland is currently away with England on World Cup duty - where he is the second choice stopper behind Jordan Pickford - but Stoke are intently waiting on his return to thrash out personal terms.

The Potters want the 25-year-old to stay despite Butland being a top target for Premier League sides.

Liverpool are also in the hunt for the England international, who is likely to cost more than £30m.

But with the chase hotting up, Stoke are now readying a lucrative contract extension for Butland in a bid to keep him at the bet365 Stadium for their Championship campaign, improving his current £60,000-per-week pay packet.

The Verdict

Earning wages of around £80k-per-week in the Championship is staggering but it is a statement of intent from Stoke.

They clearly want to keep their star men and have the strongest possible squad in the Championship.

If Butland commits his future rather than leaving, Stoke are surely shoe-ins for promotion.
