Stoke City are reportedly interested in Southampton striker Sam Gallagher with the Potters joining Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers in the race to sign him, reports the Sun.
Gary Rowett’s side are the only club in the chase who would be willing to buy the forward straight away with Rovers and the Blades only wanting to take him on loan.
This is something that could appeal to Saints as they look to raise some funds for their own transfer dealings.
The 22-year-old spent all of last season on loan at Birmingham City and scored an underwhelming six goals in 33 league appearances as the Blues narrowly avoided relegation.
Gallagher would become Stoke’s fourth summer signing after the arrivals of Adam Federici, Oghenekaro Etebo and Benik Afobe.
Despite bringing in Benik Afobe already, Stoke certainly need more options in attack with Peter Crouch, Saido Berahino and Mame Biram Diouf their only other outlets at the moment.
Gallagher would not be the most exciting signing given his record last season but would certainly be a very good option to have and this would probably a wise investment as well.
Rowett is putting together a squad that probably has the best shot at promotion as it stands and adding Gallagher to that would only enhance their chances.
