Stoke City could be without Tyrese Campbell and Nick Powell tomorrow evening against Barnsley, with the pair facing late fitness tests ahead of the game at the bet365 Stadium.

Michael O'Neill was forced to pull the pair off in Saturday's win over Luton Town due to fitness concerns. Campbell had assisted Steven Fletcher's opening goal, whilst Powell was on hand to double Stoke's lead at Kenilworth Road and set the Potters up for a 2-0 win.

However, with a short turnaround heading into the midweek fixture with Barnsley, O'Neill is now sweating on the fitness of the duo.

Quiz: Do Stoke City and Port Vale have these 10 things in common?

Both Campbell and Powell will have late fitness tests, with O'Neill telling Stoke's official media channel: “We will have to make a late check on Nick Powell and Tyrese Campbell but we are optimistic that they will be ok."

Campbell, 20, has registered two assists in just four appearances this season for Stoke, whilst Powell, 26, has scored twice in four appearances for the Potters.

Saturday's win at Luton pushed O'Neill's side onto eight points from the opening five fixtures of the season, with Stoke now narrowly outside the play-off places heading into this midweek round of fixtures.

The Verdict

Should O'Neill be without Campbell and Powell tomorrow against Barnsley it will be a blow, particularly after the pair's impact at Luton on Saturday.

However, it sounds like both do have a chance of pulling through and making the game. The extra day of rest (playing Wednesday instead of Tuesday) might have done Stoke a favour in getting them ready.

Ultimately, there's little need for O'Neill to risk the pair if they aren't right, with a clash with Barnsley a winnable game with or without the attacking duo.
