Stoke City have held further talks with Huddersfield Town about the possibility of signing Tom Ince.
According to the Daily Mail, Gary Rowett is keen on a reunion with the winger at Stoke, having previously worked with him during their time together at Derby County.
Further talks have been held between Huddersfield and Stoke, who are now looking at alternative wingers to Matt Ritchie, who had been a top target.
The 26-year-old winger made the move from Derby to Huddersfield last summer, but endured a testing first year in the Premier League with the Terriers.
Ince featured in 33 of Huddersfield’s 38 Premier League fixtures, but returned just two goals for David Wagner’s side, who impressively survived their first year of top-flight football.
However, in the Championship, Ince has been impressive before, with his spell at Derby, where he crossed paths with Rowett, standing out.
In 87 Championship appearances for Derby between 2015 and 2017, Ince returned a total of 26 goals, proving to be one of the division’s most prolific wingers.
Rowett is still looking to reshape his Stoke squad ahead of their Championship opener against Leeds United on August 5th.
Ince would be a good alternative to Ritchie, with Rowett clearly not wasting anytime pursuing the latter if a deal isn’t going to happen.
In Ince, Rowett would be getting his hands on a player he knows from their time together at Derby, which could be extremely influential in securing a deal.
If the 26-year-old arrives, and rediscovers his best, he could be a really shrewd addition.
