Stoke City have made an "audacious bid" to appoint Scotland boss Steve Clarke as their new manager, according to reports from the Scottish Sun.

The Potters are on the lookout for a new manager after parting company with Nathan Jones last week, with the Welshman winning just six out of 38 games in charge.

They have already been turned down and been reported by Preston North End for an illegal approach for Alex Neil, with their attention set to switch elsewhere.

According to the Scottish Sun, Scotland boss Clarke is on Stoke's radar, and the club have reportedly made an "audacious bid" for the 56-year-old's services.

Clarke has endured plenty of impressive spells whilst in club management - he guided West Brom to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League in 2013.

He also worked wonders at Kilmarnock last season, guiding them to a third-placed finish in the SPFL table and therefore qualifying for Europe.

But he since endured a tough time at the helm of the Scottish national side, winning just two out of six games in charge thus far.

Stoke currently sit rock bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table, six points adrift of safety after losing 2-0 to West Brom on Monday night.

The Verdict

I think that Clarke would be an excellent appointment for Stoke, despite his mixed start to life as Scotland manager.

It would be a real coup to get him given that he only became their manager in the summer, but Stoke are a big club with large finances.

He has worked wonders at West Brom before and knows how to win games of football, which is exactly what Stoke need right now to lift themselves off the foot of the table.
