Gary Rowett is looking to add Championship experience to his squad this summer, with Curtis Davies still on Stoke City’s radar.

A report in the Mirror has confirmed that Rowett is looking to add players with experience of the Sky Bet Championship to his squad, with a reunion with Davies at the bet365 Stadium high on his agenda.

Stoke are preparing for life back in the Championship next season, with Rowett looking to reshape the squad he inherited.

Rowett signed Davies last summer, with the ex-Derby County boss taking him to the Pride Park Stadium from Hull City.

The 33-year-old was impressive for Derby in the heart of defence, making 46 appearances and scoring one goal during the regular season, helping the Rams to sixth.

The ever-present centre-back, who took hold of the captaincy for the final third of the season, then featured in both legs of Derby’s play-off semi-final clash with Fulham.

A 2-1 aggregate defeat has left Derby facing another year of football in the Championship.

Frank Lampard has since taken charge at Derby following Rowett’s move to Stoke.

The Verdict

Davies was really impressive for Derby last season, proving to be a real talisman at the heart of defence for Rowett’s side.

It is little surprise to see that Rowett wants to link back up with the defender, who would add so much to Stoke’s squad.

However, Stoke will have to pay to get Davies out of Derby, who are unlikely to be keen on the idea of letting the defender move to a direct rival.
