Sky Bet Championship side Stoke City are plotting a double swoop on Premier League duo Southampton and Burnley for strikers Charlie Austin and Sam Vokes, according to reports from The Sun.

Potters boss Nathan Jones is looking to add firepower to his side's attack having fell well away from the play-off places, and could allow one of Saido Berahino, Peter Crouch and Benik Afobe to depart the Bet365 Stadium this week.

The latter, since his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer, has really failed to set the world alight in Staffordshire, scoring just eight goals this term.

Reports have now surfaced, though, that the Potters are looking to complete an ambitious double swoop for the experienced duo, who have both fallen out of favour at their respective clubs.

29-year old Vokes, despite making 29 appearances for Sean Dyche's men this season, has fallen behind the likes of Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes at Turf Moor, and has been limited to just ten starts in the Premier League.

Charlie Austin, meanwhile, has been told that he can leave Southampton this month, with Premier League side Wolves reportedly interested in the powerful forward, who has scored three goals in 18 games this term.

Stoke, after falling to a 2-0 home defeat to Preston North End at the weekend, currently sit 15th in the Sky Bet Championship table, eight points off the top six.

The Verdict

Jones isn't messing about is he?

Both Vokes and Austin are magnificent forwards, and possess real quality and physical prowess in the final third.

It would be a real coup if they were to land the pair.
