Stoke City on the verge of completing key summer transfer

Stoke City are on the verge of signing Benik Afobe with a deal for the Wolves striker expected to be completed today.

According to John Percy at the Telegraph, Afobe will depart Wolves just 12 days after joining permanently, with Stoke set to pay £12m to secure the striker’s service ahead of their return to the Sky Bet Championship.

Wolves took up their option to sign Afobe on a permanent deal from Bournemouth at the start of June, after the striker impressed during the second-half of last season.

However, with Wolves preparing for the Premier League, they are set to move Afobe on less than two weeks after signing him, with Stoke looking to complete a £12m deal today.

Afobe has had two separate spells with Wolves in the Championship, which have proved to be prolific.

Last season, after joining on-loan in January, the 25-year-old striker made 16 appearances in the Championship, which brought six goals, as Afobe spearheaded Wolves to promotion and the title.

His previous spell at Molineux brought 22 goals in 46 Championship appearances.

The Verdict

This is a really bizarre transfer agreement, with Wolves quick to move Afobe on.

However, Stoke will not be bothered, as they are getting their hands on a prolific Championship striker, who could be the key to firing them back to the Premier League.

At £12m, Afobe might seem expensive, but if he can score the goals to take Stoke back to the top-flight, he will seem like a bargain.
