Stoke City striker Peter Crouch is reportedly set for a medical with Burnley with Sam Vokes set to move the other way in a deal worth £7million, according to John Percy of the Telegraph

Crouch, who turned 38 yesterday, has been with the Potters since 2011 and has made 23 appearances in the Championship this season, scoring once, but does not seem to be a part of Nathan Jones' plans.

Vokes has been out of favour at Turf Moore for a while and Sean Dyche now appears willing to let the Welshman leave, despite scoring three times this season.

The 29-year-old would become Jones's second new signing of the January window following the arrival of centre-back Danny Batth from Middlesbrough for just over £3million.

Meanwhile, winger Ibrahim Affelay is the only player to leave the Bet 365 Stadium, with the club and player agreeing to cancel the 32-year-old's contract.

The Potters currently sit in a disappointing 15th place with 29 matches played despite being made convincing preseason favourites to lift the second-tier title in May.

The verdict

What a bizarre transfer, but it is a good one for Stoke.

Swapping 38-year-old Crouch for 29-year-old Vokes is definitely a smart move. The £7million fee seems a bit steep but is to be expected for a mid-season signing.
